Drive smart during the detour time

As the Edmund Pettus Bridge entered its first day of closure, Many tourists and drivers had their plans changed after finding the historic route would be closed until March 15 by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).

According to a press release for ALDOT, maintenance on the bridge will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning and will continue until Friday afternoon until approximately 4:30 p.m.

Driver’s should use the Selma Bypass (Alabama Highway 41) while the bridge is under maintenance and use extreme caution while traveling through work zones.

This is throwing a lot of commuters off their regular route. We all must be mindful as this change happens.

While no accidents or injuries have been reported as of press time, we must be on the lookout for the changes that this closure brings.
