Bringing us all together

Since time began, I would argue the one thing that brings us all together is a nice meal.
If you think about it, food is a basic need that drives us all.
We take any opportunity we can to have a meal with a group of people.
From birthdays to Christmas, to Kwanzaa and good report cards, we will come up with any reason to participate in a meal with our loved ones and friends.
It’s true and I think it’s wonderful.
Yes, fried chicken is amazing but it is even more so with your closest friends.
Girl Scout cookies only go as far as how many boxes you buy and I recommend at least a dozen.
This weekend is a special opportunity to participate in extreme eating.
Not so much in a “Fear Factor” scenario but the Wild Game Cook-Off at the Orrville Community Center this Saturday will provide all of your wild game craving needs.
If last year’s Cook-Off is any indication, then there is sure to be a wide variety of exotic meats at this year’s event as well.
The many types of wild game included venison, wild boar, squirrel, rabbit, frog legs and even raccoon.
Orrville Mayor Louvenia Lumpkin is hoping to build off the success of last year’s cook-off and that at least 100 people showed up with participants coming from as far as Mobile.
Like Lumpkin, I like that the event creates a sense of community that comes with the diverse groups sharing food and conversation.
It is my hope that everyone who is able will travel to Orrville on Saturday to participate in this, for lack of a better word, amazing event.
From what I’ve been told there will be so much food, and let’s face it: we’re Southern and food is what brings us all together.
We should take advantage of it.
