A Wilcox County jury found Demetrius Nettles guilty of murder from a six-year-old case on Thursday.
The jury made the verdict after deliberating for one hour and 10 minutes.
According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, Nettles will be sentenced after a pre-sentence investigation and report is completed. Circuit Court Judge Collins A. Pettaway will do the sentencing.
The murder occurred on May 28, 2011 as Nettles got into an altercation with Christopher Rowden. After the fight was broken up, Nettles left and returned 45 minutes later with a knife. He came to Rowden’s grandmother’s house, called him a “punk ass bitch” and told him to come outside. In the confrontation, Nettles stabbed Rowden in the chest. Rowden died while in flight to Baptist Hospital in Montgomery.
Jackson called the murder a senseless act.
“This was a cowardly act that Nettles did taking a life and bringing Grief to Christopher’s family,” Jackson said. “We will be asking for the maximum sentence of life in prison.”
