Chili Cook-off postponed to this fall

The 2019 Alabama River Chili Cook-off has once again been postponed.
After being called off in March due to a threat of severe weather, the cook-off was rescheduled for this Thursday.
Severe weather, once again, has forced a rescheduling of the cook-off as thunderstorms are predicted to roll in on Thursday evening.
After consulting all of the teams slated to participate in this year’s Cook-off the Black Belt Benefit Group (BBG), the organization that hosts the Chili Cook-off each year, has decided to reschedule the event for this fall.
Although the forecast predicts that the severe weather will be gone early Thursday evening, The BBG felt that attendance from the general public would suffer greatly because of the storms.
“As frustrating as it is to have to reschedule this event a second time, we want to do all that we can to ensure a successful event,” said BBG President Josh Wilkerson. “This year’s beneficiary, Easterseals West Central Alabama, deserves for us to make the most educated decision possible to ensure that success.”
BBG will begin looking for a date to hold the 2019 Alabama River Chili Cook-off this fall.
Wilkerson thanked the community for their support as they work to ensure a successful event.
“This event could not and would not succeed without your continued support,” he said.
