The Valley Grande City Council agreed to repair one of the fire trucks in the Valley Grande Volunteer Fire Department.
The five Valley Grande council unanimously voted at its council meeting Monday at Valley Grande City Hall.
Valley Grande Public Safety Director Boyd Pugh told the council that one of the four fire trucks failed the pump test and it needed to get fixed immediately. Pugh said it would cost between $3,000 and $13,000 to repair.
“All engines have to pass the required pump test,” Pugh said. “They’ll have to get into the truck’s transfer case to find out what the problem is. It’s hard to tell what’s wrong with the truck while listening to it. If one of the trucks is not working, there’s a problem.”
The council also agreed to donate $1,000 to Summerfield’s Crawfish Boil. The council has donated to the crawfish boil every year.
The council spent 40 minutes in executive session discussing whether to make the Valley Grande Parks and Recreation Coordinator position from part time to full time, but they were deadlocked 3-3.
The council had early discussions about its Fourth of July celebration. Councilman Lamar Morgan said there’s early talks about having skydivers come in before the festivities begin. Morgan said it will cost between $1,000 and $2,000 for the skydivers.
The next Valley Grande City Council meeting will be held on May 6 at 6 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall.
