The Selma Fire Department (SFD) and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) kicked off the annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign on Wednesday morning.
SFD has been participating in Fill the Boot for the last 21years.
Beginning this weekend, the firefighters of SFD will stand at Wal-Mart with a boot that citizens can fill with dollars and change.
All of the proceeds that SFD collects will go to the MDA, which works to help those and their families who suffer from muscular dystrophy, ALS and other muscle debilitating diseases.
For SFD, raising money for the MDA is just part of their duty to help the public.
“I think it’s good to help any way we can,” said SFD Battalion Chief Joseph Salter. “We’re here to help.”
MDA Business Development Director Angie Jordin commended SFD on their participation of Fill the Boot.
“The members of Selma Fire and Rescue display an unwavering enthusiasm for
families served by MDA as they raise critical funds to help our families get the medical
care and resources they need,” said Jordin. “We are so proud to kick off the 2019 Fill the Boot campaign with these first-responders who mirror the strength and nobility of MDA families who strive to live unlimited every day.”
SFD will be collecting money for the MDA in front of Wal-Mart every weekend until August. In the past they have managed to raise over nearly $8,000.
