Saturday marks the end of “Don’t Drop it on Alabama” 2019.
The week-long initiative to clean up Alabama last Saturday.
Groups around Dallas County have participated all week, doing their part to keep both the state and the community clean.
Dallas County Commissioner Valerie Reubin was proud of all the participants who showed up throughout the week
“I’m very proud of all the people who came out to pick up and I’m very happy with all of the work we got done this week,” she said.
Reubin organized several clean-up efforts throughout the week at different locations including County Roads 67, 38, 8 and 85.
On County Road 67, the Southside High School ROTC students showed up to lend a hand.
“Those kids didn’t realize how much trash was out here,” said Reubin. “Some of them even admitted to littering from time to time, but afterwards they said that the wouldn’t be doing that anymore. That made me feel good.”
For those that haven’t had a chance to participate in the clean-up campaign yet, there’s one more chance to make a difference in Selma.
Reubin and others will be at the Dallas County Courthouse at 8:30 a.m. Saturday to clean up around the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge and along Highway 80 toward Montgomery.
