On Monday, Wallace Community College-Selma (WCCS) announced the beginning of a new service to WCCS students in the form of a food pantry.

For those of us who have gone to college, it is a stressful time.

Between studying, tests, tuition payments, social lives and for some, a job, it is hard to afford much else.

There are numerous students who give up food in order to pay for college.

The Morning Call reported on a study wihopelab.com that shows that students aren’t getting enough food to eat or don’t have enough money for a place to live as they work on their degrees.

The authors wrote that 36 percent of university students surveyed said they had been food insecure in the 30 days preceding the survey, meaning they lacked access to nutritional food or felt real hunger pain.

Food pantries like this will help our students stay fed as they work hard on their higher education. The education they are working on will give them a better life and we commend WCCS for adding this additional service
