Selma Schools encourage learning for parents

The Selma City School system is getting ready to show that you are never too old to start learning new skills.
Particularly the Parent University, that will kick off soon with a mobile unit, will teach valuable life skills that will help parents be able to provide a better life for themselves and their children.
This has been a goal of the Selma City School system for a long time and one thing that was missing was the most important part: the bus.
However, the bus is acquired and it is nearly completed.
By the beginning of the next school year, the bus is hoped to be in full swing visiting different communities within the Selma City Schools district.
Classes will include a variety of things that will allow adults and students to learn together.
Life skills are important to a community.
According to the World Education Organization, a mother’s “education level is the greatest determinant of her children’s future academic success.”
The organization also states that adult education makes communities safer.
This is a valuable tool that will be available for all parents in the Selma City School system and it is one that should be used.
This project has been a long time coming and we are glad that this is something that is coming to our community.
Come next school year, we encourage everyone to get on the bus when it is available in your neighborhood.
