UAB Selma Family Medicine hosted a free community health fair at the YMCA of Selma-Dallas County on Saturday.

The YMCA was filled with a huge variety of interactive booths and vendors, giving attendees ample opportunities to learn about health and fitness.

“What we really set out to do here is get people active and get people together,” said Dr. Matthew Bauman of UAB Selma Family Medicine.

Participants in Saturday’s health fair received access to medical, vision and dental screenings, tests and information and counseling by professionals on everything from diabetes to weight management.

According to YMCA Community Outreach Liaison Austin Williams, the health fair is a great way to get information about living a healthy lifestyle into the hands of the community.

“What we see a lot of at the YMCA is that a lot of our members don’t have access to the information they need,” said Williams. “They want to be healthy but they don’t know how to be healthy.”

According to Williams, the doctors at Saturday’s health fair were all doctors who work in the Selma-Dallas County area, so they already know the needs of the community.

“It’s beautiful to see everybody come out and have a wonderful time today,” said Williams.
