Following in the footsteps of other clean-up initiatives, the Morgan Academy Student Government Association (SGA) and football team along with Selma City Councilwoman Miah Jackson have collaborated to organize a clean-up at the Historic Old Live Oak Cemetery.
“The effort was initiated by the Morgan Academy SGA and football team. The SGA president, Richard Watters reached out to me by email and invited me to help coordinate their effort as the Ward 3 Representative,” said Jackson. “It is my great honor to serve with them.”
In another part of our historic city, trash and debris continues to be an issue even in the places where we rest our loved ones.
Watters said it best but the cemetery needs more than just a little work.
It should be heartbreaking to all of us the way that we allow our places in our historic city to be treated.
Morgan’s SGA, along with their football team, will put their plan into action this Saturday morning from 8 to 10 a.m. Though, according to Watters, the support that Morgan has received from the community has been outstanding, they could still use all the help they can get.
“Absolutely everyone is welcome to come out and help,” said Watters.
Everyone should come out to help. The Live Oak Cemetery is a place that matters to all of us.
Join these students on Saturday to help make a difference in our community.
