The Kindergarteners of Leika’s School donned their white caps and gowns on Thursday evening as they prepared to graduate from the over 70-year-old school.
The class of 2019 joined generations that have graduated from Leikas as many of them accepted a carnation from either a parent or older sibling who attended Leika’s before them.
“It’s one of the many traditions we have here at Leika’s,” said Leika’s Director Joy Green. “It’s something we’re very proud of.”
This years graduation was particularly special, as the theme was “Absolutely Alabama”, celebrating the state’s bicentennial.
Leika’s Kindergarteners even sent Gov. Kay Ivey a video invitation to attend the ceremony but she was unable to attend due to her gubernatorial duties.
Even though Ivey couldn’t be there a representative from her office presented the school with a commendation recognizing Leika’s rich history.
