Tabernacle Outreach Program will host both a Health Walk and a Health Fair on Saturday morning at Tabernacle Baptist Church from 7:30 – 10 a.m.
According to Tabernacle Outreach Organization Representative Krystal Dozier, Saturday’s morning of health and wellness is to promote healthier lifestyles among children in the community.
“A lot of issues, like diabetes, obesity and high cholesterol, are preventable,” said Dozier. “That’s why it’s important we educate children early on about being healthy and self-care.”
The morning will begin with a warm-up led by a YMCA fitness instructor before the group begins the health walk.
The walk will begin at Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church where walkers will travel down Broad Street to the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge before turning around and heading back to the church.
After the walk participants will have the opportunity to get their weight and blood pressure checked and receive a variety of information about living a healthy lifestyle.
For Dozier, health and wellness are very important and she believes that a healthy community creates a happy community.
“I, personally, try to walk 30 minutes every day,” said Dozier. “That time is important to me and keeps me feeling good.”
