There’s no doubt that the video of violence at GWC Homes in Selma has circulated the airways of social media.

The depiction of multiple fights happening between different subjects is unfortunate and something that we all wish was a rare occurrence in our community.

Yet the video still circulates and people’s assumptions of our city continue to be proven right.

What people say about our community has to come from somewhere and it is from videos such as this that go viral and spread for all to see.

People are watching at all times. No matter how often we think that they are not, someone is there with a camera especially in this day in age.

In order for us as a community to move forward, these violent acts must stop.

It is footage like this that continues to drive people away from the community.

That begins a chain reaction.

The Selma City School system has already decided to close two schools and not renew some employees due to population decline.

The decline our community faces impacts more than just people leaving a home vacant.

Schools close, businesses close and we continue to stay remembered as a place that is dangerous.

Anyone viewing the video could see an individual being assaulted with a bat.

We see this and yet we continue to wonder why people have the opinion of this place that they have.

It is because of this that the movement to a better community will be stifled momentarily.

Don’t be part of the problem. End the violence now and be part of the solution.

In this digital world, our actions are a search away from being found by people all over the world.

Make sure we leave a good impression.
