Auburn DB coach to speak at Dallas County Auburn Club

Auburn defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff will be the guest speaker at the Dallas County Auburn Club at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Central Alabama Farmers Co-Op Market.

This is McGriff’s second stint at Auburn. He was the Tigers’ secondary coach and co-defensive coordinator in 2016 before being named defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Ole Miss from 2017 to 2018. He was a defensive coach with the New Orleans Saints earlier this decade.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said McGriff is a great addition to the Tigers’ coaching staff. Auburn went 8-5 last season, including a 63-14 victory over Purdue in the Music City Bowl.

“He’s got great energy, he relates to players, I think that is a key to a coach,” Malzahn said. “He does not have any bad days, he brings in great energy and always a positive attitude to every meeting and every practice. That is contagious to players and players like to play for a guy like that.”

The Dallas County club will likely address two subjects tonight: the death of Auburn’s play-by-play announcer Rod Bramlett and his wife Paula and the Tigers’ reaching the NCAA Baseball Super Regionals.
