“I’m happy to have my friend, Sheriff Granthum, come out and speak to you all today,” said Bowie. “He has done a tremendous job as sheriff since he was elected in November.”

After an introduction from Bowie, Granthum took the floor to discuss with the students many tough but important topics including sexting, bullying and drugs.

Granthum first touched on the importance of attitudes.

“That’s what life’s all about,” said Granthum.

Granthum stressed the importance of making good choices, and warned that bad choices can impact you forever.

Granthum told the students that the presentation would be very informal and encouraged them to ask questions.

“We’re going to talk about whatever you guys want to talk about,” said Granthum.

Granthum answered several questions about the state and federal court system, the booking and jailing process and about conditions inside the county jail.

“What’s life like in the county jail,” Granthum asked, “It’s rough guys.”

Granthum ended his presentation on a note of encouragement for the students.

“Anyone can make it now guys,” he said. “There are so many opportunities out there, there are no excuses. It all comes back to character and the choices you make now.”
