Two Morgan Academy baseball players were honored by the Alabama Sportswriter Association (ASWA).
Gunnar Henderson was named the AISA’s baseball player of the year and hitter of the year. Jeremy Lee was named the AISA’s pitcher of the year.
Joining Henderson and Lee on the All-state first team are catcher Brayton Brown and infielder David Ducote.
Outfielder Joseph Estes made the second-team, while pitcher Matthew Davis was selected honorable mention.
Morgan Academy baseball coach Stephen Clements said he enjoyed coaching the Senators, who went 30-2 and reached the AISA State Championship Series.
“It was a lot of fun coaching this team,” Clements said. “Everyone took on their roles to be part of the team.”
Henderson leaves Morgan Academy with several individual honors. The Auburn University signee was also named Gatorade prep baseball player of the year in the state of Alabama. Henderson was AISA’s basketball player of the year and MVP at the AISA All-Star basketball game.
Last week, Henderson was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the second round of the MLB Amateur Draft.
