A Girls mentoring outreach program in Selma has reached a six-month milestone this month.

Girls with Pearls officially launched in December, 2018. The program was awarded a grant from the Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT), the Black Belt Community Foundation(BBCF), and the vision of the Sending for the Women(SFTW) ministry under Charity Fellowship Outreach.

The nonprofit organization was created by Potter’s Place Church First Lady Carroll Bonner, whose overall vision for the program is to minister deliverance, healing, and restoration using faith-based teachings and practices.

Six topics were taught over a course of six meeting in classroom sessions. Instructors were also assigned to teach one of the six consecutive sessions based upon the selected topic of that week. A child could earn up to 18 pearls based on attendance.

“The girls with Pearls mentoring program was created to heal relationships among young girls, to build social skills, self-esteem, proper manners, leadership, etiquettes as well as offer pearls of wisdom such as anti-bullying,” Bonner said.

Twenty girls have completed the program.

The Girls with Pearls will have a program at Potter’s Place Church on June 29 at 4 p.m.  The church is located on 3000 Old Montgomery Highway.
