On Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., locally based AIDS Service Organization Selma AIR and pharmacy Walgreen’s will partner to provide free and on-site HIV testing in recognition for National HIV Testing Day.
According to AIDSVu.org, the number of annual new HIV diagnoses has declined by 21 percent since 2008. However, 1 in 7 people living with HIV are still unaware of their status, the organization claims.
“While the annual number of new HIV diagnoses has declined overall, certain populations continue to be disproportionately impacted by HIV.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), 4 out of 10 new HIV infections are transmitted by people living with undiagnosed HIV, underscoring the critical importance of getting testing and knowing your status.
According to ADISVu.org, in 2016, 422 of every 100,000 people in Dallas County were living with HIV.
Testing is important and the partnership between Selma AIR and Walgreen’s is the safe and efficient place for anyone to be tested.
Take advantage of this opportunity and know your status.
