“It felt great to win the tournament, it’s a pretty overwhelming experience,” Free said. “It was pretty nerve-racking, but you’ve got to love the moment. I’ve been playing well.”

Free, who didn’t lead until the final hole, said the opening round set the stage. Lord shot a tournament record 61 in the opening round.

“It’s hard to overcome that,” Free said. “I knew there was plenty of golf left. I just went out and shot 62 in the second round the next day.”

Free, 16, has won his second individual tournament of the year. He won the 91st annual Selma Country Club Invitational Men’s Golf Tournament on June. Free was also helped Morgan Academy win the AISA State Golf Championship.

Free said playing golf at Morgan Academy gets him ready for summer golf.

“High school golf helped prepare me for summer tournaments,” Free said.
