The Black Belt Community Foundation (BBCF) received 64 applications from organizations in the seven Black Belt counties that includes Bullock, Choctaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Sumter and Wilcox.
Out of those 64 applications, 54 of those applications will be funded by the BBCF grants.
Along with these grants the BBCF for Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) awarded six out of 11 applications for grants to Dallas County organizations.
The community groups that have been awarded grants are what is considered the “heart and soul” of the BBCF.
“With a considerable amount of time, talent and treasure concentrated on empowering their communities, residents now have more control in the transformation taking place in the Black Belt,” according to the BBCF.
The commitment of these groups and their work is what is needed to improve the Black Belt and fix what is lacking in our communities.
These grants are a big deal to these organizations and we are thankful for them and the work that these grants allow to get done.
