Residents of the Selma – Dallas County area will have no shortage of entertainment options to choose from this Independence Day as several events are ready to take place in Orrville, Valley Grande and Selma.

Both the Town of Orrville and the City of Valley Grande will host free fireworks displays this year.

The City of Valley Grande’s fireworks show will be held at Valley Grande City Park. The Town of Orrville will host their program at the Orrville Community Center.

Both Orrville and Valley Grande have scheduled their events to begin at 7 p.m., but fireworks won’t begin until sundown.

Earlier in the day, The Historic Walton Theater will be screening the hit children’s Film “Peter Rabbit” at 10 a.m.

The early showing of the movie is part of the Walton’s “Summer Movie Blast” series which shows this year’s most popular family films for a discounted price.

$5 includes the movie ticket, popcorn and a small drink.

While there are no public fireworks displays being held within the Selma City limits this year, Thursday marks the beginning of Empower Music Festival 2019.

The festival begins at 10 a.m. and the first of the day’s activities, a military walk at Edmund Pettus Bridge, is scheduled to take place at 10:15 a.m. The official festival kickoff will begin at 10:30 a.m. and both the Empower Super Lounge and the food trucks will be open.

From 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. there will be a Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship Expo at the Carl Morgan Convention Center, a Health, Beauty and Wellness Expo at the George Evans Convention center and a Music Showcase at Songs of Selma Park.

Empower Music Festival  will conclude for the day at 6:30 p.m. with performances by multiple artists from a variety of genres including Sean Mac Trio, Dani, Taylor Hunnicut and multi-platinum recording artists, Silk.

All artists will perform at the Riverwalk Amphitheater on Water Avenue near the St. James Hotel.
