The TNA Heat Elementary Girls Basketball team captured a championship on the Florida Gulf Coast last weekend.
The team won the End of the Summer Showdown title played in Pensacola, Florida a three-hour drive from Selma. The team went unbeaten in three games at the tournament. It’s the team’s first tournament title of the season.
Members of the TNA Heat are Jaidyn Dixon, Tamia Richardson, Kennedi Brooks, Shaniya Moore, Micaiah Holman, Jakayla Moore, Rodnisha Parker, and Melinda Olds.
Letti Hasberry is the TNA Heat coach. Lamesha Williams is the assistant coach.
“This was the first and only tournament this group placed in this summer,” Hasberry said. “We’ve competed in several other tournaments this season, but we kept coming up short. It was a lot of the girls’ first year playing organized basketball. To win this tournament was a major accomplishment.”
Hasberry also said that the squad began working toward the 2019 season last fall.
“After our last season ended last July, we got back in the gym in November and have been working hard ever since,” Hasberry said. “I’m just glad that they stayed with the program and trusted the process.”
