Seniq’s Variety Café hosts grand opening

Seniqua Smith’s dream came true Saturday afternoon.

Smith officially opened her first restaurant, Seniq’s Variety Café. Smith held a ribbon-cutting ceremony as family and friends stood beside her.

“This was the dream of my life,” Smith said. “I opened it to serve the community of Selma. It feels great to be pursuing my dream.”

Guests were treated to a delectable spread of chicken, green beans, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad and hot dogs. A bouncy house, nachos and snow cones were provided for the kids outside.

Get Right Entertainment, based in Selma, provided the music for the grand opening. Blues songs were played at the event.

A mother of three children and grandmother of eight, Smith said profits from the café will go to her tutoring service, Whole Child Community Center. Smith also sells S&S handbags and accessories as well as promote several local events.

“In order to tutor free, I am using the café money toward the tutoring,” Smith said.

Smith said that the café will be open Tuesday- Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Monday and Wednesday nights from 5-9 p.m. and on Fridays from 4 – 11 p.m.

For the menu, Smith said she plans to serve a rotating daily special of a meat and two vegetables in addition to sandwiches, burgers and salads.
