Issues at the Valley Grande city park dominated Valley Grande’s City Council meeting on Monday.
Valley Grande Public Safety Director Boyd Pugh told the council about several incidents that occurred at the pavilion and parking lot. The baseball and softball fields are several yards away from the parking lot.
Pugh said the 16 cameras at the park showed alleged drug deals occur, vehicles doing donuts in the parking lot, suspects jumping the fence and people having sex. He said the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office deputies caught some suspects. With the first offense, they paid a $134 fine, which covered damages to the park.
“They got off with a fine the first time,” Pugh said. “I told them if it happens again, they’ll go to jail and be charged with trespassing. The people’s excuse is that they didn’t see the sign where the park is closed. It’s a big sign and you can’t miss it.”
Valley Grande Mayor Matt Dobbs said the situation must be addressed. The council discussed the possibility of adding a fence or gate around the area.
