Several Morgan Academy female student-athletes recently participated in Selma’s Community cleanup project.

Morgan Academy softball coach Cherie Grimes and several of the school’s athletes assisted Selma City Councilwoman Jannie Thomas with cleaning up Bloch Park.

Grimes said she reached out to Mike Irwin of the Juvenile Probation Office on how to get the student-athletes involved with the project. Bloch Park was the idea they came up with doing once a month. KeepAlabamaBeautiful.org provided garbage bags, vests and trash grabbers.

“Everything was approved by school officials and we moved on with the plan,” Grimes said. “Mike came out and spoke to the girl athletes on what it means to be part of the community and what we can do to make it a better place.”

Grimes said Morgan Academy Director of Instruction Karim Oaks and parents Jennifer Roberts and Scott Egbert also assisted with the project.
