The Morgan Academy volleyball team are considered AISA State Championship contenders.

The Lady Senators have won six of their first eight games this season. Morgan Academy swept Tuscaloosa Academy 25-17, 25-19 and 25-20 on Tuesday night.

Maggie Colley, Abbie Bohannon, Caroline Thomas, KaLee Jones, Kenley Kauffman, Tindall Albritton, Hannah Lightfoot, Mary Carolyn Jones, Morgan Wallace, Kaylee Whitaker, Maryanna Turner, Sarah Thomas, Rebecca Manning, Emme Albritton and Keenan Lee McHugh are the Lady Senator varsity players.

First-year Morgan Academy coach Jessica Lovelady said she is proud of the Lady Senators’ start.

“I’m pleased with our record,” Lovelady said. “I worked with this group a few years ago, I know their capabilities I knew I was taking over a talented team.

Colley, The Selma Times-Journal’s volleyball player of the year in 2018, enters her final season.

“It’s kind of sad because I’ve been playing volleyball at Morgan since the seventh grade,” Colley said.
