Running back Ryan Morrow runs for 295 yards and scores four touchdowns as second-ranked Maplesville hammers Keith High 56-6 on Friday night at J.V. Caldwell Memorial Stadium.
The Bears fall to 3-2 overall, 1-2 in Region 3, Class 1A.
Morrow scored on touchdown runs of 70, 9, 5 and 89-yards. He had 189 yards and two touchdowns at halftime, which the Red Devils (4-0, 2-0) held a comfortable 28-0 lead.
“We had to execute and click on all cylinders,” Morrow said. “I thank the offensive line for blocking and the coaches calling the right plays.”
Keith coach Anthony Lumpkin made no excuses for the Bears, who went 0-for-2 in two red zone possessions during the first half.
“We got outplayed, we outhustled, and we got out physicaled,” Lumpkin said. “Maplesville wanted it more than we did. We won’t quit. We’ve got stuff to work on. We’ll go back to work Monday.”
The Bears avoided a shutout with 5:36 left to play when quarterback Jared Edwards hit Jeffrey Cochran on a 5-yard touchdown pass.
Edwards had 125 yards rushing for the Bears, including 97 at halftime.
Quarterback Jackson Abbott threw two touchdown passes and Ajaia Robinson ran for a touchdown to pace the Red Devils’ offense.
