ArtsRevive intern Carey Fountain hosted an art exhibit at Gallery 905 on Thursday.
ArtsRevive Executive Director Becky Youngblood said this exhibit was a great way to introduce Fountain to the public and allow the public to get to know him more.
“Perception is powerful,” Fountain said of the work he had on display at the art gallery. “One individual can see red and another can see burgundy. One individual can feel cold and uncomfortable and another can feel at complete bliss in the same environment.
“As humans, I think we often rely too much on what we perceive as real without taking into account how many unreal things shape what we consider reality,” said Fountain. “Very few things are ever truly black and white, and almost everything is so simple yet so complex depending on our perspective. My work challenges these constructs and questions these belief systems through paint, mixed media, installations and music. I am an artist searching for truth in a world full of artificial flavors and beautiful lies.”
Fountain’s artistic journey began with writing songs when he was 11.
“I began experimenting with visual art during my student years at the University of Alabama as a means to express ideas in a more concrete way. I believe music helps one let go of reality while art pieces it all together,” said Fountain. “I like to explore what I call the language of the middle. As a musician, visual artist, culture producer, ‘ARTrepreneur’ and father; I combine these disciplines hand in hand with the belief that art can inspire change to propel society forward.”
