Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club adds new scholarship

The Dallas Wilcox Bama Club has added a 12th endowed scholarship fund.

The “Julius and Pearlie Talton Endowed Scholarship” brings the Club’s  total endowment funds principal amount to $965,000.

“It’s wonderful that the Talton and Glover families are providing more scholarship money for the Dallas-Wilcox fund,” Bama Club President Ronnie Leet said. “Julius was President of the National Alumni Association for many years. We thank the Talton Family for this endowment fund.”

Out of 48 in-state University of Alabama Alumni Association Chapters, the Dallas Wilcox Bama Club chapter ranks in the top 3.5 percent of chapters in total endowment dollar amounts. They also rank in the top 3.125 percent of the 48 in- state Alumni Chapters in total number of endowment funds.

Talton, who died in 2005, was the founder of Talton Telecommunications.  Talton headed the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, Boy Scouts, the Selma City School Board and the Salvation Army. He also was a board member of the Selma-Dallas County Economic Development Authority, co-chaired the United Appeal and was a director of Peoples Bank and Trust Co.

Talton and his wife, Pearlie had two children: Julius Talton Jr. and Carrie Talton-Glover. The Taltons were married for 53 years until his death on Jan. 23, 2005.
