DOC graduates 90 basic correctional officers

The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) graduated a new class of 90 Basic Correctional Officers (BCO) Thursday morning.

According to Capt. Rondell Wannamaker, BCO Class 2019-02 is the largest class the program has had in sometime, which will be a great asset to the state’s prisons.

Wannamaker commended Class 2019-02 on the hard work and dedication the newly christened officers displayed over the last six weeks as the officers completed training.

“There will never be another class 2019-02,” said Wannamaker.

Wannamaker also thanked the training programs instructors for their work in molding a new class of officers to serve the state’s correctional facilities.

“Thank you for your hard work and dedication to get these young men and women inside these institutions where they are desperately needed,” he said.

ADOC Deputy Commissioner Dennis Stamper then spoke to the graduates as he delivered the commencement address.

“It gives me a lot of pride to see us move forward with a huge class of 90 Basic Correctional Officers assuming their places in our facilities throughout the state,” said Stamper.

Stamper’s commencement address consisted of congratulatory remarks directed at the graduating officers for completing the training program as well as encouragement as they embark on their careers as correctional officers.

Following Stamper’s speech, the officers received their certificates and celebrated with their families.
