Snapshots, Blues coming to Arts Revive

On Thursday, Oct. 3, Arts Revive will host Snapshots, Stitches and Selma Blues beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Arts Revive Carneal Building.
Tickets are still available on Eventbrite, Gallery 905, www.artsrevive.com, or at the door the night of the event.
The cost is $35 for non-Arts Revive members and $20 for members of Arts Revive.
According to Arts Revive Executive Director Becky Youngblood, the event is comprised of 10 blues and jazz musicians making up three ensembles and two artists depicting these musicians in their work.
Youngblood added one artist does needle-point who does portraits.
The needle-point artist, Leanna Lesley, started needle-point for fun.
“I have a degree in visual arts and have spent most of my life drawing and painting,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “Until college, I needlepointed painted canvases that were purchased in a needlepoint shop. Once in college and unable to afford pricey hand painted canvases, I started designing my own. My work has evolved into stitching portraits. Though I don’t draw or paint the image onto the actual canvas, my ability to draw helps me needlepoint in that I look at the photo while I stitch just as I would look at a still life as I draw. I follow the line and form, lights and darks. In fact, it is a great marriage of both talents.”
“It’s pretty impressive,” Youngblood said. “There will also be a photographer who has taken pictures of these musicians … all for sale at the event. Clyde’s Food Truck will be there to serve food and there will also be a cash bar.”
The photographer Roger Stephenson specializes in performance photography particularly in fashion shows, concerts, publicity photos and CD covers for musicians.
The blues and jazz performers will be Sam Frazier Jr., Elnora Spencer, Jock Webb Sr. and Clarence “Bluesman” Davis.
