The 3rd Annual Selma – Dallas County Boy Scouts Shrimp and Sausage Boil is set for Saturday and tickets are still available at Bob Myers State Farm Insurance Office at 1009 Highland Ave.
Single tickets are available for $30 and couple tickets for $50. Each ticket includes all you can eat shrimp and Conecuh sausage with sides, and two drink passes for beer or wine.
In addition to the food, Paul Gardener will provide live music for the event.
Tickets can also be purchased at the event, which will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. at Play Selma Music Hall at 1122 Water Ave.
According to Myers, who serves as District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts, around 200 of 300 tickets have been sold.
“We’ve sold a lot of tickets, but of course we’d like to sell a lot more,” he said.
According to Myers, the fundraiser has been a great help to the Boy Scouts the past couple of years.
The scouts put money raised from the event to use by creating scholarships for underfunded campers so they can be sure to experience all of the fun the scouts have to offer.
Myers feels that the scouts are an excellent program for local young people to be involved with.
“One of our problems here locally is there isn’t a whole lot of programs for kids to be involved with,” he said. “But scouting provides them with something to do and enjoy. It teaches them responsibility, pride in themselves and pride in their country.”
Myers anticipates this year’s Shrimp Boil will be the biggest and best yet.
The scouts have already surpassed their $10,000 fundraising goal and have secured 27 sponsors, 11 more than last year’s 16 sponsors.
The sponsors who made this year’s Shrimp Boil Possible are: Children’s Dentistry, Carter Drug, Selma American Legion Thomas R Mackin, Post 20, Bush Hog, First Cahaba Bank, Vaughan Regional Medical Center, Bob Myers State Farm, Henry Brick, The Downtowner Restaurant, George’s Paint and Body, Pilcher-McBryde Drug, Valley Creek Veterinary Hospital, A & B Fabrication, Harrell Refrigeration, International Paper, Woodmen Life, Brech Marine & Supply, Alfa Insurance, Rayco Industrial, Inc., PalletOne, Crown Laundry, The St. James Hotel, Pepsi, Peak Insurance, Dave’s Market, Mark’s Mart and a donation from an anonymous donor.
Myers also thanked Selma Cash and Carry, Walmart, Golben Ranch BBQ and Grill and Tally Ho Restaurant for their contributions.
“It’s going to be great,” said Myers. “It’s supposed to be a really nice day. Come out and eat some great food and listen to the music.”
