On Thursday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Alabama Career Center System, in collaboration with the Alabama News Network, the Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs (GOMA) and Selma University, will host a regional job fair on the campus of Selma University as part of Alabama’s Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Initiative.

The event is free and open to the public and will feature more than 25 employers representing over 1,500 available jobs, including Caddell Construction, Shoreline Transportation, International Paper and more.

“The Alabama Department of Labor has done an amazing job connecting Alabamians with the needs of employers around the State,” Nichelle Nix, Director of Alabama’s Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs, said.  “As part of our agency’s HBCU Initiative, we chose to partner with Secretary Washington and his team to hold job fairs on the campus of Selma University and other Alabama HBCUs in the near future in order to draw attention to and connect the talent that exists on the campuses of Alabama’s HBCUs with employers around the state.”

Alabama Department of Labor (ADOL) Secretary Fitzgerald Washington stated that his department was excited to working with the various partners assembled to host the job fair, which will “help jobseekers come face-to-face with employers.”

Jobseekers are encouraged to pre-register for the event online, which allows for faster entry, as well as print their confirmation form and bring it along or save it to their phones.

Those unable to register beforehand will be able to do so at the door.

Jobseekers should also bring along multiple copies of their résumés, dress professionally and be prepared to interview on-the-spot – the Alabama Career Center System’s mobile unit, as well as local career center staff, will be on hand to assist jobseekers in applying for jobs.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has placed job creation at the center of her administration’s work and has worked hand-in-hand with the Alabama Workforce Council to foster collaboration between government, industry and education.
