Former Selma Mayor thanks support for the Evans Special Benefit Fund Golf Classic and Fun Day

Former Selma Mayor George Evans said the Evans Special Benefit Fund Golf Classic and Fun Day was a succees.”
Sixteen teams competed in Wednesday’s golf tournament at Valley Grande Golf Course. The fun day was held Tuesday at the George P. Evans Building.
The team of Fair Garner, Paul Portwood and Paul Garner won the tournament with a score of 59, edging out Steve Spivey, Randy Moore and Kenny Day who also shot 59 but lost in a tiebreaker. I.B. Hopson, George Hicks and James Wright was third at 60.
Andy Stewart, Tommy Atchison, David McCormack, Logan Cowart, Lee Calame, Johnny Moss III and Jones King were among the local businessmen who competed in the golf classic.
Proceeds will go toward Cahaba Mental Health, Easterseals West Central Alabama, Selma City Schools and Dallas County Schools.
“I was very pleased with both days, but especially with the fun days for the children,” Evans said.
