Selma City Schools, which has mounted a vigorous effort to bolster local education with science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) programs, will host its first STEAM in the Black Belt Conference Nov. 8 at R.B. Hudson STEAM Academy.
“Team Selma is committed to living out our vision to be documented as a model school district,” said Selma City Schools Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams. “In doing so, we will prepare our scholars for success in our ever-changing world. STEAM in the Black Belt is thriving and we strive to be leaders in these efforts.”
The conference is the first of its kind in Selma and Dallas County and stands as an opportunity for superintendents and educators from the region to discuss STEAM instruction, resources and partnerships.
According to a press release, Selma City Schools is aiming “to be the hub of all things STEAM in the Black Belt” and has intentions of sharing its “STEAM journey, as well as best practices, to participating schools.”
Elementary, middle and high school students will present live demonstrations focusing on various elements of STEAM education during the conference and attendees will hear from district leaders about the importance of developing a STEAM curriculum, as well as the role of strategic partnerships.
