The Selma Rotary Club presented a giant check to the winner of their premier Draw Down Fundraiser held last Tuesday at Monday’s meeting.
The Rotarians spent several months selling tickets for the event, raising money for the Rotary Club Scholarship fund in the process.
David Cothran was the winner of the raffle, receiving a $5,000 check.
Cothran purchased a ticket to show his support for the Rotary Club’s mission of providing scholarships to deserving students.
“It’s great for civic organizations to step up and do their part to help the community,” said Cothran.
While Cothran was proud to support the Rotary’s cause, he added that winning the money came at a great time – Cothran is the father of quadruplets who graduated from Morgan Academy in May and he said the money will be a big help in his children’s education.
The Rotary Club will use the money raised from the event to fund eight total scholarships.
One $1,500 scholarship, one $1,000 scholarship one $500 scholarship and five $200 scholarships.
All eight of the Selma – Dallas County area’s high schools (Southside High, Selma High, Dallas County High, Keith Middle – High, Morgan Academy, Meadowview Christian Academy, Ellwood Christian Academy and Christ the King) will select a worthy graduating senior and a committee of Rotarians will decide which student receives which award.
