RIF Sponsors Breakfast with Santa

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) will hold its annual Breakfast with Santa on Saturday at the Selma Convention Center.
The event will be held from 8:30 until 10:30 a.m. and treat kids to breakfast and several books to read over the Christmas holidays.
The Zeta Eta Omega Chapter/Women and Youth Service Center of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. in collaboration with the Dallas County Commissioners, The Mayor and the Selma City Council, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Pi Lambda Chapter, members of AmeriCorps, Culturama and the Alpha Academy.
Actors from the Lion King cast of R. B. Hudson STEAM Academy is expected to attend and read an excerpt from the play.
RIF Coordinator Nancy Sewell praised the RIF’s success rate across the country.
“RIF is the largest children’s literacy nonprofit in the United States,” Sewell said. “That for over 50 years, RIF provided the seeds of inspiration to millions of children which has motivated children to follow their dreams and achieve their potential. “
RIF Chairman Melinda Page said reading books can provide a creative outlet for the youth.
“It seems incredible for a book to launch a life, but it happens every day as hungry, inquisitive young minds reach out and grab hold of the new people, places, and ideas through books,” Page said.
The AKA sorority have provided RIF in the Queen City since 1979, holding three RIF Fun days over the summer.
