A Selma native was hired baseball coach at Xavier University of Louisiana this week.
XULA named Selma’s Adrian Holloway its new baseball coach and revive the program for the 2020-21 school year.
Holloway said he’s looking forward to restarting the school’s baseball team.
“It is an honor and privilege to be given this opportunity to bring baseball back to Xavier University of Louisiana,” Holloway said. “Together we will build a program that will leave a legacy for years to come with emphasis on development of young men on and off the field.”
Holloway was baseball coach and Athletic Director at Selma University from 2014 until last year when the school shut down its athletic program.
“We look forward to baseball thriving at the university and enriching the remarkable academic environment at Xavier University of Louisiana,” XULA President Dr. Reynold Verret said in a release.
Holloway, 36, also played baseball at Alabama State University and spent time in the minor leagues.
“The city of New Orleans and University are both behind the program,” Holloway said. “My goal is to build a program that the Xavier family and the city of New Orleans will be proud of. We will hit the ground running in recruiting top talent to revitalize baseball at Xavier.”
XULA’s assistant vice president for student affairs / director of athletics and recreation Jason Horn said Holloway has an impressive resume.
“Adrian has achieved at a high level at the small-college level and understands the big picture of program and student-athlete development,” Horn said. “He will prove to be an outstanding choice to lead the rebirth of our baseball program.”
