A Selma man was arraigned Thursday on charges of attempted murder and arson.

Travis Dewayne Lewis, 17, was charged with attempted murder, first-degree arson, discharging weapon into unoccupied building, discharging weapon into unoccupied vehicle and aggravated animal cruelty, according to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson.

Dallas County District Court Judge Bob Armstrong set Lewis’ bond at $2 million at the arraignment in the Dallas County Courthouse. Lewis remains locked in the Dallas County Jail.

“Smokey the Bear would be disappointed in this young man,” Jackson said.

The Selma Police Department responded to a call at the block of 1704 Mabry Street around 10:56 p.m. on April 27. SPD met with Keytorie Madison, who said someone shot her residence and set her vehicle on fire. Madison told police that she had video camera at her residence.

The SPD watched the video and noticed six male suspects walk up with weapons. They also noticed one of the suspects, Alexander Burton, had a clear jug of gas in their hand and poured gas on the vehicle. The video also showed Jarron Stallworth walk up and set vehicle on fire. Police also noticed that Christopher Williams had a gun and started shooting.

Madison’s boyfriend came out of the house when the suspects started shooting. He hit the ground with shots flying over his head and crawled back into the residence.

The SPD met with a confidential informant and state that Williams, Ken Irby, and Dezmond Hall all had guns. The informant also stated that the shooting was to get back at the people they believe shot Jerry Arron.

Evidence Tech collected between 90 and 100 shell casings in front of the residence. The vehicle that burned was a 2001 Honda Accord. A dog was also at the property.

Armstrong set Lewis’ preliminary hearing on Aug. 4 at 1:30 p.m. in the Dallas County Courthouse.
