The Selma Area Food Bank (SAFB) was announced as the beneficiary of a $19,350 donation from Woodmen Life on Wednesday morning.
The donation stems from a partnership from Woodmen Life and Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.
Through Woodmen Life Impact, the organization’s online fundraising tool, Woodman Life raised $1.076 million for Feeding America’s COVID-19 response fund.
The two organizations worked together to distribute the funds to areas in need across the country, allocating over $19,000 for Selma Area Food Bank.
“At WoodmenLife, we believe no one should worry about where their next meal will come from,” said Regional Director Michael Hutto. “Feeding America’s work for more than 40 million people each year is a lifeline our country can’t live without right now, and we’re honored to be able to work alongside them.”
The SAFB worked to feed those in need across the Black Belt since 1993.
The organization serves through out four Black Belt counties: Dallas, Perry, Marengo and Wilcox.
The past few months have been a busy time for the Food Bank as their volunteers have worked hard to continue to serve the Black Belt throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which have greatly impacted their clients.
In addition to continuing to serve it’s clients during a global health crisis, the SAFB has also been busy relocating to a much larger efficient facility at Craig Field.
SAFB Executive Director Jeff Harrison said last month that the new facility is 17,000 square feet, more that twice the size of it’s previous facility on Church Street.
