The homeless veterans of Selma were fed by three local organizations on the Fourth of July.

Restoring Veterans’ Hope Organization, CyberSignal Technologies and A Clean Selma worked together to host a barbecue at The Good Samaritan Hospital. Lydia Chatmon of Selma AIR and candidate for Selma City Council President, was among the volunteers at the event.

Dallas County Veteran’s Services Officer Lashendra Weaver, the event’s organizer, said it was important to feed the veterans on Independence Day.

“The reason I’m doing this is because I’m a veteran myself,” Weaver said. ” We have over 300 homeless veterans in Dallas County. This is my way of giving back to both the homeless veterans and homeless people in Dallas County.”

Volunteers from the three organizations spent the holiday giving out hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, drinks, assorted chips and deserts. They also gave out gift bags that contained items such as hand sanitizer and masks.

CyberSignal Technologies CEO and President John Kinnerson, a former disabled veteran, said he was honored to assist Weaver.

“I wanted to use my company and use my influence to bring awareness to disabled veterans, feed homeless veterans and other homeless people,” Kinnerson said.
