Nelson, whose positions for the Saints include wide receiver and safety, said he’s honored that schools are interested in signing him for the freshman Class of 2023.

“It feels exciting to have all this attention and being so young,” Nelson said. “I’m still not satisfied with the amount of offers I have. I still have to work until I get every college in the nation coming to my games.”

Saints coach Willie Gandy said he’s impressed with Nelson’s versatility.

“One thing I can say about this kid, he’s a hard worker,” Gandy said. “He’s a excellent kid on and off the field. The future is really bright for this young man and I’m extremely excited to see what the future hold for Dakarri.”

At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Nelson projects as either a receiver or defensive back in college. His speed and strength will continue to improve by the time he graduates.”

Nelson is the second family member with football scholarship offers. His older brother, Dion Nelson, has a FBS offer from Akron and Jacksonville State among his FCS offers.

“Dion influences me a lot, he pushes me to be the best me I can be,” Nelson said.

Nelson is in great shape to qualify academically in college. He has a 3.5 GPA and took the ACT earlier this month.
