A former Perry County Commission member was indicted this week by a Dallas County Grand Jury for attempted rape and sexual assault charges.
Donald Nichols, 66, was indicted Tuesday for first-degree sexual abuse and attempted rape charges, according to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson.
Nichols, a member of the Perry County School Board, was arrested Aug. 12 at his home in Perry County for sexual assault during a fishing trip in Dallas County.
Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum said Nichols made sexual advances toward the woman in her 20’s and she rejected him. Granthum added that Nichols tried forcing himself on her to comply. After grabbing her car keys, Nichols made another sexual advance and offered to give her keys back. The female tricked Nichols and grabbed her keys.
Once they returned back on land, Granthum said the woman contacted the Selma Police Department (SPD).
Jackson said that Nichols will be arraigned in the Dallas County Circuit Court over the next few months.
