The newly-elected Valley Grande City Council continues to set its agenda for the town’s future.
The council met Monday night at Valley Grande City Hall. Mayor Wayne Labbe and the entire council-Kay Davidson, Sara Day, Jane Harris, Bruce Hughes and Robbie Rose- all were present.
Labbe appointed an Advisory Committee. Each council member would have different responsibilities: Rose (Parks and Recreation), Davidson (Business Development), Hughes (Sewer System and public safety), Harris (Zone, Beautification) and Day (walking trail and community events).
The council also discussed Christmas in the Park, which would consist of decorating the City Park with holiday decorations: Christmas tree, lights. Labbe said no one dressed up as Santa Claus would be present because of the coronavirus. Day will have $5,000 to spend on the decorations.
“Stay within the budget and do what you think is best,” Labbe told Day. “We need to get our money’s worth.”
The council approved to apply for a $250,000 grant to repair some of the roads in Valley Grande. Labbe said it would cost the city $75,000 for its part on repairing the roads. The council will discuss which roads to get fixed at a later date.
The council also discussed getting a EMC quote for Lagoon Repairs. The process includes getting a new tank, chlorination, de-clorination. Labbe said the current tank is cracked.
Labbe reminded the council that the accounting firm of Jackson and Thornton, based out of Montgomery arrives next week for the city audit.
The next council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Valley Grande City Hall.
