Valley Grande City Council held its final council meeting on Monday night.
Mayor Wayne Labbe and the entire council-Kay Davidson, Sara Day, Jane Harris, Bruce Hughes and Robbie Rose- all were present at Valley Grande City Hall. Assistant City Clerk filled in for Clerk-Treasurer Janet Frasier.
The council unanimously approved to amend the 2020 budget to purchase fire equipment for the fire departments at Valley Grande and Summerfield.
Councilman Bruce Hughes and Public Safety Director Boyd Pugh met to access the needs of both fire departments, finding they need to replace eight sets of turnout gear and 34 SCBA bottles. They said it will cost between $54,000 and $64,000.
Labbe said $54,000 of the city budget has not been used and it will go toward the fire equipment. The council approved to use $10,000 if it’s needed.
Pugh added that 22 tanks will need to get purchased over the next few years.
Rose and Bubba Holley of Parks and Recreation have been working on getting the roofs repaired at the dugout and concession stand at Valley Grande City park. They’re awaiting estimates.
Labbe thanked the council for its great start and looked toward to hosting events next year.
The next Valley Grande City Council will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 4 at Valley Grande City Hall.
