Two Dallas County men were arraigned Thursday in the Dallas County Courthouse on multiple drug charges.
According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson and Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum, Melvin Barnes Jr. and Michael Walton were arraigned after being arrested by the DCSO on Jan. 12.
Barnes, 22, a Selma resident, was charged with trafficking illegal drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree promoting prison contraband, first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana. His bond totaled over $1.5 million.
Granthum said Barnes was arrested after an undercover deputy witnessed a suspected drug transaction that Barnes allegedly was involved in. They noticed a strong scent of marijuana.
Walton, 31, a Sardis resident, was a suspected buyer and charged with possession of a controlled substance. His bond was $1,000.
Jackson said that Dallas County District Court Judge Bob Armstrong left Barnes’ trafficking bond at $1.5 million. Barnes’ bond hearing is scheduled for Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. in the Dallas County Courthouse.
