Morgan Academy earns top seed in Elite Eight
Chris Gardner scored 17 points as Morgan Academy beat Clarke Prep 60-41 on Tuesday night.
The Senators (7-7, 5-1 Region) won the Area championship and will be the top seed in the Elite 8 tournament.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the way we competed,” Senators second-year coach Luke Hutcheson said.
Rhyne Williams and George Turner each scored nine points.
Selma High 47, Demopolis 24: The Saints improved to 5-2, 3-1 in Area competition.
Clarke Prep girls 67, Morgan Academy 45: Bailey Brown led the Lady Senators (4-11, 0-6) with 25 points. Sarah Thomas scored nine points. McCann Perkins grabbed nine rebounds.
“I appreciate the efforts of our girls this basketball season,” Lady Senators first-year coach Danny Raines said. “We played an extremely tough schedule, but they continued to play hard.”
Meadowview Christian School girls 48, North River Christian 15: Patricia Peoples scored 10 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked two shots for the Lady Trojans. Grace Redd added 10 points and four steals.
Selma girls 59, Demopolis 10: The fifth-ranked Lady Saints improve to 4-2, 3-1 in Area competition.
North River Christian 75, Meadowview Christian School 42: Amari Rucker led MCS with 13 points.
Southside girls 42, Greensboro 29: Jakeria Robinson scored 13 points to lead the Lady Panthers (8-2, 2-0).
Meadowview Christian School girls 37, Cornerstone Christian 24: Grace Redd scored 17 points and made six steals for the Lady Trojans (7-4). Kendra Campbell grabbed 17 rebounds.
Southside 57, Greensboro 41: Tae Spears scored 17 points off the bench, Christopher Thomas added 10 as the Panthers got their first Area win.
Cornerstone Christian 59, Meadowview Christian School 34: Will Bennett led the Trojans with 20 points.
