Snead State Community College signed a Morgan Academy golfer for the third straight year.
Arrington Mooney signed with Snead State CC Thursday in the school’s gymnasium. Mooney signed before his family and the Morgan Academy students and faculty.
Snead State CC signed David Cothran two years ago and Thomas Morris last spring.
“It feels great to sign with Snead State,” Mooney said. “I love their golf course and people on the team.”
Mooney said he’s excited to become teammates with Morris.
“I’m looking forward to play with Thomas Morris again.”
Mooney said he’s enjoyed playing golf at Morgan Academy. He’s played for the Senators since the seventh grade and helped the squad win two AISA State championships.
“Playing golf at Morgan Academy means a lot to me,” Mooney said. “I won two state championships. I believe we will win a third championship.”
Morgan Academy second-year coach Will Pearce said he’s impressed with Mooney’s dedication for the game.
“It’s awesome that Arrington signed with Snead State,” Pearce said. “He’s a hard worker. Arrington has played golf for a long time and he’s still getting better.”
Mooney is well known on the amateur scene. Mooney and his father, James Mooney finished third in team net at the Selma Country Club Invitational Golf Tournament last year.
Two years ago, Mooney won the Paul Grist Trophy earlier this month from his strong performance at the Bud Burns Dixie Junior Championship.
