Pride of Alabama Elks Lodge honors James Perkins Sr.

The father of Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. was honored Sunday by the Pride of Alabama Elks Lodge #1170.
James Perkins Sr. was recognized for over 70 years of uninterrupted service by the Pride of Alabama Elks Lodge #1170.
“We are proud and honored to be able to celebrate this giant,” the Pride of Alabama Elks Lodge said in a statement.
The Pride of Alabama Elks Lodge #1170 serves the citizens of the Selma-Dallas County through social events, community functions.
Mayor James Perkins Jr., Dallas County Circuit Court Judge Collins Pettaway Jr. and Collins Pettaway III, Founder and Senior Consultant at The Pettapull Firm, all attended the event. The elder Perkins is the father of Synethia Pettaway, Judge Pettaway’s wife and Pettaway III’s grandfather. Synethia Pettaway is Dallas County Democratic Executive Committee chairwoman.
“I pray that God blesses me with the longevity to remain active in these organizations the way He has blessed him,” Collins Pettaway III said. “I’m so proud of him.”
Former Selma City Councilwoman Angela Benjamin praised Perkins Sr. for providing advice.
“He gave me a good word of wisdom 13 years ago, thank you for your service and being a constant,” Benjamin posted on facebook.”
